Puerto del Reloj
It was exciting to see this as I wheeled north on Camellón de los Mártires from Getsemani towards the Old City. Puerto del Reloj took 30 years to build between 1601 and 1631. It marks the entrance point of the Old City and may well be Cartagena’s signature landmark.
On a sunny day, the yellow Clock Tower Gate rises into the sky. On a rainy day, the yellow tower still (gloriously) shoots through the clouds and rain—almost like a beacon (okay, I know this is cheesy. Was just my impression!). It has four clocks facing north, south, east, and west. There are three archways—and many vendors underneath—under the Clock Tower to enter the walled Old City.
