Los Feliz
Area: East, North of Downtown LA
Overview: Hail to the hipsters! A part of the growing number of hipster neighborhoods, Los Feliz shines as one of the top of the heap. A large bohemian crowd of artists, rockers and indie types, Los Feliz, much like its larger neighbor, Silverlake, has gained tremendous ground over the years. Los Feliz is a small community, sitting between Hollywood and Silverlake and south of Griffith Park.
Most of Los Feliz life takes places on Vermont Ave in between Santa Monica Blvd and Franklin Ave as well as Hillhurst Ave, which is evolving into a real hang out destination with shops and restaurants just a block east of Vermont Ave. Los Feliz is really a hanging out, where the locals trot on foot, relax and people watch. Some of the places to visit in Los Feliz take on a larger than life persona. For instance, have a Thai Cobb Salad at the swanky and popular Fred 62. Fred 62 epitomizes the local crowd in the coolness factor and the hub-bub. A little ways south on Vermont Ave is the delicious Palermo Ristorante Italiano where you can sit in or outside, enjoy your meal and watch the action on the streets unfold. A little north, you’ll find a sinful pecan pie a la mode at a Los Feliz institution, the House of Pies.
Along the stretch where Fred 62 is, catch a flick at the Los Feliz 3, which has two smaller screens and one large screen. The movie theatre is old but you might find it refreshing to catch a flick at a non-chain. If you’ve seen the quintessential movie, Swingers, you might recognize the Dresden Room Restaurant. On Hillhurst ave, let the always popular and tasty Home restaurant fill up your stomach.
Lastly, Los Feliz is adjacent to the historical Griffith Park, a massive sprawl of a park in the Hollywood hills and mountains. Within Griffith Park, which is just north of Loz Feliz Blvd on Vermont Ave, you must visit the Griffith Observatory, a world-class astronomical museum and a spectacular place to see the Hollywood Sign. The Griffith Observatory also produces a great view of Los Angeles. And, just south of the observatory is the outdoor concert venue, the Greek Theatre.
Accessibility: Los Feliz is wheelchair accessible.
