Public Transportation in Los Angeles
Overview: Los Angeles has several bus programs. They primarily include local city buses such as the Culver City Bus and Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus and the Metro Rapid buses.
Accessibility: Los Angeles buses are all wheelchair accessible. Buses have low-floor access and electronically controlled ramps. Each bus has wheelchair designated spots near the front of the bus. To stabilize wheelchairs, Los Angeles buses have electronically controlled hooks to lock wheels in place and seat belt straps (over the shoulder and waste). There are two seat belts for wheelchairs: one goes over the shoulder, the other, over the wheels and laps. You can choose not to have the over-the-shoulder strap put on. In addition, chords to ring stops are placed low so you can reach them easily.
TIP
Drivers ask you your destination ahead of time so they can keep you in mind. If a driver does not ask, which is uncommon, take the initiative and let the driver know.
