METRO RAPID BUS
Los Angeles’ Metro Rapid Bus Program is overseen by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and is L.A.’s express bus program. The more recent Metro Rapid buses are conspicuously long and have accordion centers that allow the long buses to turn corners. The 9200 through 9400 series come in red and silver, orange and silver and light grey and silver. The Metro Rapid program was developed to shorten time travel between longer distances. In order to shorten the time passengers spend on the bus, the city developed a bus signal priority program that allows longer green lights at signals for the Metro Rapid buses. Metro Rapid bus lanes have also been built throughout the city of Los Angeles to cut down on traffic and signal wait times. In addition, Metro Rapid bus stops are spaced about a mile apart unlike the local city buses which make stops every block.
