The Standard (Hotel) – Downtown LA
Overview: What says cool more than an upside down sign on a building? The L.A. swank factor hits with hipper speed than most at the Standard in Downtown Los Angeles. There are two posh Standard Hotels (the other is in Hollywood on Sunset) so don’t confuse the standout of the two. The Standard in downtowin is located on Flower St between 5th and 6th Street and a few blocks south of the Music Center (Walt Disney Concert Hall and more).
People who live in L.A. like to visit New York but don’t want to live there (mainly the weather). The famed rooftop view of the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles draws many to The Standard, even if they are not staying the night. The Standard’s rooftop view of the surrounding metropolis has a “New York” feel. The panoramic view is seen from The Standard’s rooftop swimming pool and popular Rooftop Bar. The bar and view are the real reasons to visit The Standard by locals and tourists. The rooftop is adorned with funky, red pods, enclosing waterbeds, telescopes and other necessary hip items such as attractive people to make the bar stand out and desirable.
The Standard does come equipped with more than a glamorous rooftop bar and staff. It does have a 24/7, bright yellow restaurant serving American food after all. Service is suspect and if you don’t mind being dropped off by the waiter and waitress and not seeing her/him again until bill time, this is your place. But, The Standard is centrally located so you can walk to the Music Center, Fashion District and more.
