Money Matters in Prague
Prague is still an affordable European destination to visit. The sales tax here is at 19% vat!
CURRENCY
The Czech currency is the Koruna or crown, CZK (the currency symbol), and each Koruna is divided into 100 haléru or hellers.
At the airport
I would suggest withdrawing money from a money/cash machine at the airport, then, exchanging a higher note, 1000 or 500, in one of the convenience stores there, Relay, for the taxi. Ask for 100s and 20s back. The taxi driver will have change for that.
ATMs, CASH MACHINES
it’s best to withdraw money at cash machines/ATMs. Money changers can jack up the rate in their favor by 10%.
CSOB
There are CSOB branches and ATM on Behleradska conveniently next to the front door of Hotel Beranek. There is also a branch office and ATM in Wenceslas Square at the bottom of Myslbek Shopping Gallery.
CITI BANK
Citi Bank also has a presence in Prague and there is a branch office in Prague 2.
EBANKA
In addition, I used Ebanka to trade in currency and this is a branch office located just north of Behleradska and near the Ocean Internet Cafe. Ebanka has a currency exchange window which is open unil 8pm.
KOMERCNí BANKA
There’s a Komercní banka which has ATMs all over but the main office is at Na Príkope 33, Praha 1. There are also branches in Praha 2 near the Namesti Miru Station.
TIPPING
10% tip at a nice, sit-down restaurant. Otherwise, none or a few loose coins. Hotel cleaners, 30
