Malostranska Namesti (Lesser Town Square)
Overview: The Mala Strana area is simply gorgeous and deserves a full day of your attention. Malostranske Namesti ( Lesser Town, as the name means in English) is the old town square in the middle of Mala Strana area and reminds one of a bright, pretty fairy tale of broad, expansive flat cobblestones, trams and tram tracks, highly detailed and colorful baroque and gothic buildings and quaint restaurants. When the sun is high, its rays gleam on this picture perfect area. In the center of Malostranske Namesti, you’ll find one of Prague’s most beautiful and famous is here, St. Nicholas Church. Mala Strana also houses foreign embassies in ornate buildings and charming little streets.
Cost: Getting there might cost a few euros by metro.
Accessibility: Accessibility in the Mala Strana area is a bit rougher than in Wenceslas Square but probably less strenuous than Old Town. From the Malostranska metro station, you’ll have to wheel through a few windy street blocks, pass the foreign embassies and finally ascend a bit up to Malostranske Namesti and St Nicholas Church. The sidewalks do have the 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 stones and the dips in the curbs aren’t even with the street.
Getting There: If you take the metro, take metro line A. If you’re coming from Prague 2, find the north lift (see Metro section) at the Muzeum stop. Take Metro Line A to Dejvicka. You will get off the metro at Malostanska. However, the metro stop at Malostranska has escalators. The escalators are wide. I personally ride them all the time in a wheelchair. On the more common or practical side, take a cab.
