Staying in Madrid
I researched the heck out of Madrid to look for a cheap place to stay. Here are some Madrid hotels that are wheelchair accessible, have no steps or very minimal steps and have roll-in showers or bathtubs with handles.
Some Madrid hotels have steps that maybe as little as half an inch. Some larger. Elevators/lifts may be tiny, etc. There are a couple of Madrid hotels listed that may semi-wheelchair accessible. You can judge for yourself.
Madrid Hostales are not Hostels
A hostal in Madrid is like a pension. The same basic amenities or features as hotels apply. This is not to be confused with a hostel at all. There are some terrific hostales in Madrid’s city center that are cheaper than Madrid hotels.
If you are in a wheelchair and want to stay in Madrid’s city center – close to Puerta del Sol – I recommend Hostal Cantabrico or Plaza de Espana Apartel and then Hostal Persal, which is very close to the Prado Museum and in non crowded part of Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Jacinto Benavente. Check out these hotels here and some others.
