About Getting Around Attractions Hotels Eats Essentials & Practicals
Staying in Frankfurt
Overview: Frankfurt does have numerous options as far as budget, wheelchair accessible hotels are concerned (but budget Frankfurt hotels are hard to find in general). Still, you can’t tell with certainty judging by pictures and even disabled symbols on websites. There are a slew of hotels in the downtown area in and surrounding the red light district, the Messe and pretty much everywhere. Frankfurt is a place to transit. Not a real hugely popular tourist destination unless it’s a trade fair time.
Caution: Messes – trade fairs. There are probably a hundred fairs in Frankfurt. This number is at the low end. There are 6 major fairs, including the auto show, book fair. During the major trade fairs, the hotels will increase their rates by as much as, it seems, 200 to 300%. The huge increase in hotel rates during fair time has been cracked down on but the hotel rates during the book fair skyrocketed in 2007. In addition, Frankfurt knows when the fairs are way, way ahead of time. So, if you try to reserve a room during a major fair a year in advance, your initial bargain rate will get kicked back. That being said, make sure you know when to go.
In addition, always check the hotel’s website for the best rates as well as broker or aggregate websites. Sometimes the hotel just has the better deal.
