Naughty Nuri’s Warung
First, ain’t nothing naughty going on at Naugthy Nuri’s but gotta love the name! 🙂 The only thing naughty about Naughty Nuri’s Warung was perhaps the price of western food–and maybe the owner and how the restaurant/bar came to be. A hamburger costs Rp,50,000 ($5. Seriously, that’s not so bad. Cheaper than fast food in the states). But wow, you could be seriously knocked out–in a good way–by the smoke from Naughty Nuri’s grill a mile away. I think Ubud’s sheriffs should put out the flames at Naughty Nuri’s Warung and Grill for deliberately putting their barbeque next to the sidewalk. The barbeque assaults your olfactory senses and robs you of rational thinking. All you can think is, “Whoa! That smells soooo good! I’m so hungry I could eat a cow!” Yes, the thick barbeque smoke of juicy burgers, chicken and steak storm out like gangbusters and will make you insane until you feed your crazy stomach.
From the front, Naughty Nuri’s appears to be a sort of shacky, western-looking, open-air cafe with dark, wooden furniture and someone standing at the barbeque. The menu items are written on blackboards behind the counter and Naughty Nuri’s history of the restaurant is also viewable to the public via the pictures on the walls. Yes, the restaurant’s food matches its smell: it’s good. Naughty Nuri’s is known for its spare ribs and drinks. I chose the much less expensive chicken curry and rice, nasi.
Naughty Nuri’s Grill is the only restaurant/warung in the area of the Neka Art Museum. It’s a favorite haunt of expats and the bar and grill has various activities throughout the week. I recommend trying it. Finally, it’s located right across from the Neka Art Museum and that’s a bonus (and very smart of Nuri).
