BOTANIC GARDEN UBUD

GOA GAJAH
The historic Goa Gajah, which means elephant cave, is thought to have been a Buddhist center, dating back before the 10th century. The famous features are the stone carvings that comprise the archway entrance of a cave as well as the large baths. The prevailing thought about the origin of the name “Goa Gajah” as it applies to the cave is that the stone relief at the cave’s entrance appears, in part, like an elephant.

GUNUNG KAWI TEMPLE
“Gunung Kawi” means the Rock Temple of the Ancients and it’s near the Pakrisan River in near Tampasiring. The temple complex is characterized by a stone archway and most notably, giant, royal shrines (candi) etched into the side of stone cliffs. There are about 10 shrines, with standing on either side. The most common belief is that the shrines were built for King Anak Wungsu and his queens.
