Ayung River Views
Overview: Bali’s longest river, the Ayung River cuts a sweet swath through the west and northwest portion of Ubud at the villages of Campuhan and Kedewatan. It ends in Sanur, Bali. As Bali’s longest river, the Ayung River sings with spectacular scenery with its waterfalls, deep gorges and canyons and jungles. Ayung River’s whitewater river rafting presents, perhaps, more excitement to tourists who seek adventure and fun. Below are a few recommendations to view and hike down to the Ayung River and some river rafting companies.
FOUR SEASONS HOTEL at SAYAN
My goodness this is on incredible hotel! It’s unlike what you can imagine when you think of a hotel out of your price range in paradise. The down-low is that I had a driver take me to a couple of places to view the Ayung River. We first stopped at the Sayan Terrace Resort and then drove over to the Four Seasons. When you pull up to the guarded gate at the Four Seasons Hotel expansive property, your car gets checked for explosives. Then, you drive a bit along an endless driveway, reinforcing the idea of entering a very secluded and elite land. At the hotel entrance, which is not really an entrance as much as it is a disembarking area, there is a sleek fountain surrounded by black tile.
Then, the magic. There is a very long wooden bridge with spots of thatched roof coverings that lead to an enormous circular lily pond. The wooden bridge looks like a dock you’d find in an old town. It cuts through the lily pond and ends at the far end of the pond. You look out at the Ayung River canyon. You feel like you’re floating on a water disc over the gorge. Bali’s jungle surrounds you. On the bridge, you can see the Ayung River’s gorge below. Have a seat in the open air lounge/restaurant. Order a drink and indulge in the incredible panoramic scene around you. Phew!

The Sayan Terrace is pretty much next door to the Four Seasons Hotel in Sayan. On the resort’s property, there is a hiking path from the driveway. The path is not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately. But you can reach the river from the path.
