Shanghai Museum
Overview: Brilliant architectural design and fascinating exhibitions of Chinese culture, history and philosophy make the Shanghai Museum a compelling visit. The Shanghai Museum houses eleven galleries and three special exhibition halls throughout four floors.
Some of the outstanding collections and exhibits include: Ceramics Gallery from the Qing, Ming and Tang Dynasties, Calligraphy Gallery demonstrating artful and symbolic, written communication, Minority Nationalities’ Art Gallery displaying ornate costumes, detailed masks and more and Furniture Gallery of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Noteworthy is the special Ancient Olympics Games exhibition on the first floor. A loan from the British Museum, the statues and artifacts reflect the origins of the Olympics. At least during the summer of 2008, this exhibition should give you an extra special reason to visit the Shanghai Museum.
