Namdaemun Market
Wow. This place is packed. I found the Namdaemun Market to be one of the more exciting to experience in Seoul simply because of the buzz and how vendors try to attract people’s attention. This is one congested, clamoring and interesting market. It’s massive and a bit hard to get to if you’re wheeling or walking. From memory, there are tunnels with stairs to descend to get to this market. The Namdaemun Market is Seoul’s largest and most popular outdoor market. All the hustle and bustle, vendors squawking through megaphones on top of tables, assortments of clothes and other wares, make this marketplace a must experience attraction in Seoul.
Incidentally, Namdaemun means Great South Gate and the Great South Gate is right there.
Accessibility: Crowded but accessible. No steps around here except in some shops. Also, can get crowded and narrow in the walkways between the vendors, stalls and customers.
Getting There: I would take a cab here. The routes from say, Insadong, were difficult with many underpasses and staircases to traverse.
