Mactan Island
Mactan Island is a beautiful resort island about a mile and a half southeast of Cebu City proper and is where Lapu-Lapu City is located (along with Cordova). Even though Mactan Island is a resort island, from my point of view, it has a mid-sized population of over 400,000 people. The once colonized island (by Ferdinand Magellan) is where Kontiki Resort and high end resort hotels such as Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa are located. It’s particularly known for its scuba diving spots and is where I took my PADI Open Water scuba certification course. Mactan Island can be reached by two bridges: the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
Location: About a mile and a half southeast of Cebu City
Accessibility: It’s surprisingly wheelchair accessible and as a matter of fact, I saw a westerner living there and riding along his push-handle bicycle.
Getting There: Cab it because you must cross one of the bridges
