Carbon Market
Overview: It’s pure hot and humid excitement at Cebu’s oldest and largest fresh produce market. The Carbon Market is located in Cebu City’s downtown area, starting at the corner of Magellanes Street and Calderon. The long street is lined with a proliferation of plump green limes in baskets known as Kalamansi, mangoes, mangosteens, a purplish fruit, cabbages and many other varieties of vegetables and fruits.
Edible items are not the only things sold at the Carbon Market. Clothing, souvenirs and trinkets are packed in between the produce stalls.
It’s advised that tourists be cautious of the Carbon Market at night and yet, that’s when the best deals can be had, as explained by expats (it’s also very hot during the day). A typical kilo of fruit or vegetables will cost around P20 – P40 per kilo. Make sure to bring small bills and don’t show off money or fancy toys.
Location: Downtown Cebu City at the intersection of Magellanes St and Calderon.
Accessibility: The Carbon Market is wheelchair friendly as you can just stroll on the street. There are, however, a lot of people, vehicles and bustle around the market.
