LAYOUT
Bangkok is a fairly large city geographically. Here are some of Bangkok’s major districts. The Chao Phraya River runs directly through the city center. Starting from the west of Chao Phraya River is Riverside. Bangna Trad is also west of the river but south of Riverside. To the east of the river lies the rest of the major districts.
Siam and Silom are located directly across the river from Riverside. Silom/Sathorn are parallel streets and Silom Road and Surawong Road are the main streets in this area. Silom/Sathorn is a retail and entertainment district where you will find the Patpong market, restaurants and bars.
Ratchadapisek lies on the northeast of the city center above Siam.
Sukhumvit is slightly southeast of Ratchadapisek and this street, which runs east and west, packs lots of touristy spots, especially sidewalk markets and vendors, handicraft stores and more.
The northern part of Riverside, which straddles the Chao Phraya River, Siam and Sukhumvit, both of which lie east of the river, are the main tourist areas. Here, you’ll find Koa San Road, the backpackers and mega-retail/market area, the Grand Palace and much more.
