Bali Beaches
Overview: You can go to any coastal town in Bali and you’ll find a great beach. So, when you’re searching for a beach, think about what you want to find there. Do you want a family-oriented beach that’s not too crowded? Do you want a beach party and find that special someone (for the night)? How about surf? I met a ton of Australian surfers who were in Bali at the same time primarily for the surfing. Here’s a list of some of Bali’s best beaches and their features.
KUTA & LEGIAN BEACHES
These are adjacent to each other on the southwest side of Bali, and they are known to have good surf. But, because of the surf, the water does have strong undercurrents and the surf and the towns’ party quality bring in a crowd – a rowdy, party crowd. The water and beaches in Kuta and Legian are also reportedly dirty.
JIMBARAN BEACH
Jimbaran Beach is located on the west coast of Bali and it is south of Kuta. But, Jimbaran, which is south of the airport, has much cleaner beaches than Kuta and Legian. The sand and water are cleaner and the tides, gentler; thus, Jimbaran Beach is much more family-friendly than Kuta. Jimbaran itself is known for some of Bali’s best seafood restaurants.
LOVINA BEACH
Lovina Beach is renown for its surf as well as its parties. Less of a raucous than Kuta and Legian, Lovina Beach is located at the north end of Bali.
NUSA DUA BEACH
Nusa Dua Beach is located on the opposite end of Jimbaran Beach on the east coast. It has the high end, resort beaches.
SANUR BEACH
Sanur Beach is located north of Nusa Dua Beach on the east coast of Bali. It is where you want to go with the family or if you want to get away from the Legian/Kuta crowds. The beaches are soft, clean and the water is calm. There’s a very nice boardwalk as well. This is not to say there are no water activities. You can rent jet skis and diving gear – because Sanur is a great spot to scuba dive.
SEMINYAK BEACH
Seminyak Beach is located on the west coast of Bali, just north of Legian (and Kuta). Seminyak has a nicer and less crowded beach than it’s neighbors, Legian and Kuta, but because Seminyak is adjacent to these beaches, it still inherits some of the crowds.
