Cartagena’s Old City
Cartagena’s Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the main historic and tourist attraction. The Old City, which is also know as Old Town, is surrounded by a girthy and extensive wall, the construction of which began in the 1500s. The Centro area in the west side of “Ciudad Amurallada” is considered Cartagena’s downtown district. The other historic district of the Old City is San Diego to the east of Centro along with Getsemani, which is just south of Centro and outside of the downtown wall.
Founded by Spaniard Pedro de Heredia, Old City Cartagena dates back to 1533. The attractions of Cartagena’s Old City are numerous. The highlight—and my experiences— of the Old City are described.
