Flower Market & Flower District
Overview: Surprisingly, Downtown Los Angeles has some of the prettiest and most colorful sights in all of Los Angeles. Yes, it’s true. It all happens at the Los Angeles Flower Market, where you will find the freshest, prettiest deals in town. The Flower Market is located on Wall Street between 7th and 8th Street at the north tip of the Fashion District.
Taking advantage of the some of the best climate in the world, the thriving Flower Market has been exchanging and selling vast arrays of flowers since 1913. The huge flower warehouse is a part of the larger, surrounding Flower District (between 7th and 9th Street and Wall and San Pedro St), the largest wholesale flower district in the nation. The numerous wholesalers in the Flower District both purchase California grown flowers as well as import them. It’s pretty incredulous to think you can purchase 2 dozen roses for $10 to $12, 10 tulips for $7, 5 sunflowers for $3 and many more bargains. But, the thrifty shopper who needs to make a large arrangement and/or who has time in the morning to drop by, will make use of the great deals in the Flower Market and the Flower District.
Numerous flower wholesalers exist in the district but the Flower Market is, however, the original. Florists and anyone who needs to purchase flowers in bulk make their trek to the Flower Market. Keep in mind that a couple of blocks away that San Julian St between 6th and 7th Street has a lot of homeless folks. The area, however, is rather safe. You should not be deterred by the fact that there are homeless folks downtown (or Santa Monica, Hollywood, etc.).
