Walt Disney Concert Hall
Overview: You should know that anything that has Walt Disney attached to it is going to be spectacular. The Walt Disney Concert Hall does not disappoint. It is located on the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and 2nd Street across from the main music center plaza.
The newest, sleekest and boldest of the music halls of the Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles, the imaginative Walt Disney Concert Hall will dazzle you with its aggressive and remarkable architecture and state of the art audio qualities. Designed by Frank Gehry, the stainless steel Walt Disney Concert Hall resembles a blossoming flower, inviting the light and warmth of the sun. The architecture of the concert hall is composed of acute angle and smooth curves with surrounding auxiliary structures and objects, creating a labyrinth around the concert hall.
Home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the “state-of-the-art acoustics of the hardwood-paneled main auditorium, the 3.6-acre complex embodies the unique energy and creative spirit of the city of Los Angeles and its orchestra” (from www.laphil.com). Enthusiasts rage about the acoustics of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. If you don’t visit for a performance, you can still visit for a tour. You SHOULD visit the Walt Disney Concert Hall just to see it. There are self-guided audio tours as well as guided tours via the Music Center.
