Mark Taper Forum
Overview: The cylindrical live theater, which sits between the Dorothy Chandler and the Ahmanson on Grand Avenue in the music center plaza, has been around since 1967. Already a top theater, renovations in 2007 and 2008 have made the Mark Taper Forum a sought out venue for wide-ranging productions such as Angels in America, Children of a Lesser God and The Cherry Orchard.
The Mark Taper Forum has a reputation as being one of the best live theater venues in the United States, especially with the renovations. It’s the small of the Music Center’s performing arts centers, with 739 seats. This means that, combined with a large stage, the live theater-going experience is reputedly fantastic because of the visibility and intimacy of the theater.
In the music center, you have several dining choices: the Pinot Grill (21.972.3190), a fun outdoor but elegant dining experience between the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Mark Taper Forum, Kendall’s Brasserie (213.972.7322) and Spotlight Café, the most affordable of the dining choices in the plaza.
Tip: Hot Tix are sold for $20 three weeks prior to the first performance of a new show. Go to box office in person or call the Center Theater Group’s Audience Services at (213) 628-2772.
