The Smell
Overview: L.A.’s legendary artistic venue, The Smell, has only been around since 1998. The Smell is located on Main Street in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles adjacent to Little Tokyo.
Not exactly a main tourist attraction but The Smell is special not because of its odor but because it’s a place run by youngsters – and attended by people of all ages – and the livelihood of the Smell is strictly voluteer based. It’s alcohol and drug free and has a mean vegan cafe. Rock, punk, hardcore and experimental bands play nighly and art pieces are exhibited along the walls. The Smell is small and as urban as you can get without the pretensions of glamor urbanites. It’s a great place for the alternative youngsters to hang loose, have fun and make friends.
