Eats in Plaza de Jacinto Benavente Area
This is the area where on of my hotels was located (Hotel THR Cortezo). There are tons of eateries, bars and restaurants in this plaza. It’s just south of Sol and north of Calle de Dr. Cortezo. The below eateries are handicapped accessible except Cafe Aperitivo Espanol has a step at the entrance. There is also a Pan’s nearby in Puerta del Sol if you want just regular sandwiches.
RESTAURANTE AYMARA
Very unassuming restaurant and it doesn’t appear to be expensive but once you go in there, yep, be ready to spend about $20 on food and drinks, specifically a pork dish and churros and coke.
Location: Calle Reyes 12, Madrid 28015 off Jacinto Benavente Plaza
DON GALO CAFETERIA DE CINE
This large cafeteria style cafe cooks up a mean calamari sandwich for 3,5 eur. The calamari was very, very chunky and went down with another 1.5 eur coke.
MAESTRO CHURRERO
I really liked this little cafe. There was a large outdoor patio area and you could go in, order something quick and hang out on the patio. Maestro Churrero’s churros, by the way, are not the same churros as the Mexican ones. Instead, Spanish churros are not sweet, which came as a surprise. Still, their greasy goodness did the trick. Maestro Churrero also serves an excellent an café con leche (coffee with milk) but the price is about 1 eur more than Gran Via prices. This quick little cafe also serve alcohol and stays open late.
CAFE APERITIVO ESPANOL
This quick cafe is en route to Atocha Railway Station and serves typical churros and cafe con leche for the price of about 4 eur.
Location: right next to Aymara
Cost: Range from 1 eur to 20 euros for coffee, sandwiches, meat dishes, pastries
