Shopping in Madrid
Overview: Fashion in BIG in Madrid. Madrid’s a slick metropolitan city with slick-dressed people and there are plenty of areas and opportunities to find what you’re looking for. Here are just a few places.
CENTRO COMERCIAL PRINCIPE PIO
Principe Pio isn’t just a subway station: it’s got a huge shopping center as well. And, the trains will take you home and back for more! This is a huge indoor retail shopping center. You get to hit two birds with one stone: see the awesome station and buy some stuff too.
Location: Paseo de la Florida S/N, Madrid 28008

PUERTA DEL SOL
Puerta del Sol, being the most popular area in Madrid and probably the most visited by tourists, has tons of retail opportunities. The type of stores seem to target hipsters with lots of young people’s stores and shoe stores.
Celio
This is one chic store for men and it’s on Doctor Cortezo between Puerta del Sol square and Jacinto Benavente Plaza. I myself bought a few items I still have and wear today.
San Pablo Bookstore: this is a rather nice bookstore in Plaza de Jacinto Benavente next to a few restaurants.
GRAN VIA and CHUECA
Gran Via is one of the most popular streets running east and west in Madrid’s city center and it’s just above Puerta del Sol. Lined along this street and Calle Hortaleza in the Chueca area are tons of brand name and boutique retail stores.
PRADO MUSEUM MARKET
Just across the street from the Prado Museum in a small park, of course, is a market chalk full of vendors selling Prado Museum and Madrid souvenirs. Surprisingly, the market offers lots of garments and clothing.
SALAMANCA
This area, the “Golden Mile,” like Hong Kong’s Golden Mile, is where you can do some serious shopping damage. This ritzy area has a few streets such as Castelló and Serrano with lots of very expensive stores.
