Capital Hotel
Area: Downtown Beijing in the Dongcheng District. First Ring: Tiananmen Square Area.
The Capital Hotel is a 4 to 5 star hotel, which, at the right time, you can get for about $65/night. Internet rates vary wildly for this hotel. Could be $300 or $100. I booked this hotel for $65/night through Agoda.com so don’t be afraid to look around for deals for this hotel.
The Capital Hotel is centrally located hotel in Beijing. It’s la couple of blocks east of Tiananmen Square on Qianmen Dong Dajie and a few blocks from the Forbidden City. The Capital Hotel is also a few blocks west of the Beijing Railway and it’s also a couple of blocks south of Wanfujing Shopping Center. In addition, it’s a few blocks north of the Temple of Heaven.
The hotel is stacked with amenities. There are a couple of restaurants, a gym, swimming pool, massage and sauna facility, bar, karaoke lounge, internet business center, a few nice shops and a good, helpful staff. Also nice is queue of cabs in front of the hotel so you don’t have to hail one out in the street. In addition, there are tour buses on the grounds of the hotel. The staff will write down in Chinese the destinations you ask them to write to show the taxi drivers. This is extremely helpful in getting around Beijing.
There are two towers to this hotel. Tower B, to the right from the entrance, is the newest tower with lots of superior rooms. Tower A, to the left of the entrance, has more of the executive and deluxe rooms.
The only downsides to this hotel are that prices for some amenities are a bit high. Internet is 2 Yuan per minute. Stay on for 20 minutes and you will have to pay 40 Yuan. The breakfast buffet in both restaurants costs 150 Yuan, plus a 15% service charge, making the total 172 Yuan. This converts to about $27 for breakfast.
Lastly, the superior room is spacious but the bathroom might pose some trouble for anyone in a large wheelchair. The door blocks half the bathtub. You have to get out of your chair to close the door fully. This is for the superior room though. The wheelchair accessible room is huge and so is the bathroom.
